We
also provide examination of properties and a consultation service for
potential archaeological sites at the request of individuals and
businesses. A fee may be charged for this service.
Through
our Junior Archaeologist program, students, ages 12 and up, participate
in digs and the mapping and the cataloging of artifacts. Junior
Archaeologists work Sundays, May through September, excavating, and then
meet during the fall and winter to clean and catalog found items.
Parents often become interested and participate as well.
In
June of 1999, two of our Junior Archaeologists, Isaac McKeever and
Mallory Kisor, were the youngest individuals to ever present a paper to
the statewide conference of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
Students
who wish to participate in the program may call the Butler County
Historical Society’s office at 724-283-8116 for more information.
